Proving what's possible with digital healthcare in six weeks
Capable Health platform on a device
Capable Health provides digital infrastructure for US healthcare innovators. Their API-first platform lets service providers launch, grow and manage HIPAA-compliant digital healthcare solutions — without rebuilding the same infrastructure from scratch. They needed a reference implementation: a feature-rich web app that would showcase what's possible with their platform and let prospective customers experience first-hand how easy it is to create an engaging patient experience while delivering the back-office functionality required to run an efficient service.
They needed a working showcase of their platform
Capable Health had powerful infrastructure but needed proof — a real, working product that demonstrated the full scope of what builders could create on top of it. Pixie Labs collaborated with Capable's engineering, design and customer success teams to design, architect and build a reference implementation that made the platform's potential tangible.
Capable Health reference app interface
We helped Capable Health achieve…
01.
6 weeks to launch
We built and launched functionality that would typically take six-plus months — in just six weeks — by building on Capable Health's existing infrastructure rather than starting from scratch.

Team working on the Capable Health reference app
Using our Vital Systems™ process to drive progress
Diagnosing issues
We worked with Capable Health's engineering, design and customer success teams to understand their platform's capabilities, identify what a compelling reference implementation would look like, and map the features that would best demonstrate the end-to-end patient and provider experience.
Planning priorities
We defined the scope of the reference implementation — appointments and scheduling, chat, video consultations, and questionnaires — and sequenced delivery to maximise the demonstrable value at each milestone.
Rebuilding systems
We built the reference app on top of Capable Health's API-first platform, avoiding unnecessary custom development where the platform already provided the infrastructure. At Pixie Labs, we only reinvent the wheel if there's a clear and compelling reason to.
Priming for growth
The completed reference implementation gave Capable Health a powerful sales and onboarding tool — a live, working product that lets prospective customers experience first-hand how quickly they can build exceptional digital healthcare experiences.
The Capable Health team
The result was a fully functional reference implementation — complete with appointments, chat, video consultations and questionnaires — delivered in six weeks. Built on Capable Health's HIPAA-compliant infrastructure, it proved that healthcare innovators can move fast without compromising on compliance, quality or patient experience.
